"The relationship was not all roses though as it was very physical with us both at times," he wrote. "Things would often get nasty between us and there were times when Mackenzie would use or make threats with weapons to me."He wrote his former partner would "frequently spit" at him, call him "horrible names" and tell him he was ugly and would "never get another girl".Tyrone Thompson pleaded guilty to murdering Mackenzie Anderson in 2022. (Supplied: Facebook)In his closing address today, Crown prosecutor Brendan Queenan questioned the letter."It is an untested document that came on the second day of sentence proceedings," he said."There is also some element of victim blaming and that would go towards the element of remorse."Justice Weinstein said he "could not be sure that the letter was belated remorse", but said, "it gave some limited insight".'Forgiveness unlikely'Thompson, who was on bail for DV offences against Ms Anderson at the time of the fatal attack, concluded his letter by saying he would work to change his ways"I will spend the rest if my life trying to be a better person than I was on that day," he said."I hope that one day, those affected might find some small peace, even though I know forgiveness is unlikely to ever come."As for Ms Anderson's mother, Tabitha Acret, forgiveness on her part seems unlikely. On Monday in her victim impact statement she told the court her family had been exposed to the "true evil in this world"."My daughter received a life sentence of death, and so did I," Ms Acret said.In his closing address, defence barrister David Carroll said he and the Crown both agreed, "mental illness comes into play in terms of Thompson's moral culpability".Thompson is due to be sentenced on Friday.Posted 1h ago1 hours agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 4:41am, updated 1h ago1 hours agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 5:08amShare optionsCopy linkFacebookX (formerly Twitter)Family and domestic violence support:1800 Respect national helpline: 1800 737 732Women's Crisis Line: 1800 811 811Men's Referral Service: 1300 766 491Lifeline (24 hour crisis line): 131 114Relationships Australia: 1300 364 277NSW Domestic Violence Line:1800 656 463Qld DV Connect Womensline:1800 811 811Vic Safe Steps crisis response line:1800 015 188ACT 24/7 Crisis Line:(02) 6280 0900Tas Family Violence Counselling and Support Service:1800 608 122SA Domestic Violence Crisis Line:1800 800 098WA Women's Domestic Violence 24h Helpline:1800 007 339NT Domestic violence helpline:1800 737 732Top StoriesFormer PM, expert panel weigh in on Australia's place in the worldLIVEPhoto shows a submarine ship in the ocean Inflation 'clears way' for RBA interest rate cut in MayLIVEPhoto shows RBA buildingHeadline inflation stable at 2.4pc while RBA's preferred measure drops within targetTopic:InflationPhoto shows Cash money in a purse with a calculator, tea towel, list of bills on a notepad and a penThere's a reason Dutton can't resort to a scare campaign with older AustraliansAAnalysis by Annabel CrabbPhoto shows Peter DuttonKooyong corflute kerfuffle headed for court as Liberals cry foul at councilTopic:Federal GovernmentPhoto shows Monique Ryan Amelia Hamer pre-poll signsRelated storiesCourt told young woman's DV murder was 'death in slow motion'Topic:Domestic ViolencePhoto shows A close-up of a young woman with white blond hair.Murder victim's mum vows to keep fighting DV after killer's guilty pleaTopic:CourtsPhoto shows A young women with long blonde hair holds her child in front of balloonsRelated topicsCourtsDeath and DyingDomestic ViolenceNewcastlePoliceTop StoriesFormer PM, expert panel weigh in on Australia's place in the worldTopic:Australian Federal ElectionsPhoto shows a submarine ship in the ocean Inflation 'clears way' for RBA interest rate cut in MayTopic:Stock MarketHeadline inflation stable at 2.4pc while RBA's preferred measure drops within targetTopic:InflationThere's a reason Dutton can't resort to a scare campaign with older AustraliansAAnalysis by Annabel CrabbKooyong corflute kerfuffle headed for court as Liberals cry foul at councilTopic:Federal GovernmentJust InMurder accused told police he was 'tired of pretending' to be his alleged victimTopic:Courts4m ago4 minutes agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 6:13amThe 'brain rot' and 'ego stroke' of political advertisingTopic:Australian Federal Elections17m ago17 minutes agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 5:59amVirtual fencing to be legalised in NSW despite animal welfare concernsTopic:Livestock Farming43m ago43 minutes agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 5:34amHere's what the Greens will prioritise in a minority Labor governmentTopic:Australian Federal Elections43m ago43 minutes agoWed 30 Apr 2025 at 5:33amMore Just InBack to top
