(Supplied)abc.net.au/news/police-charge-man-fatal-hit-and-run-matthew-neary-golden-bay/105228918Link copiedShareShare articlePolice have charged a 22-year-old man over a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Perth father more than four years ago.Matthew Neary was found dead on Mandurah Road in Golden Bay, about 60 kilometres south of Perth, around 2.45am on November 22, 2020, after he left a party to walk home in the early hours of the morning. It is Western Australia's only unsolved fatal hit-and-run since 2016, but detectives made a breakthrough after using enhanced CCTV technology to identify a white Nissan ute seen driving in the area where the father of eight was hit. Matthew Neary's body was found on Mandurah Road, just north of Dampier Drive. (ABC News)Police received multiple reports from members of the public after images of the car were published by several media outlets.It led to the arrest of the 22-year-old man, who was aged 17 at the time of the incident, on Milligan Street in Perth on Wednesday.He has been charged with failing to stop and ensure assistance following an incident occasioning death, as well as failing to report the incident.Detective Senior Sergeant Hugh Le Tessier thanked the community for its assistance in helping police to solve the case. "This is a great example of the importance members of the public can play in helping bring any investigation to a resolution," he said. A roadside tribute for the father of eight.
