His career took off when he joined the IAF fighter wing in June 2006. As a combat leader and experienced test pilot, he has accumulated an impressive 2,000 hours of flight time on various aircraft, including the Su-30 MKI, MiG-21, MiG-29, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier, and An-32.In 2019, Shukla received a significant call from ISRO and began rigorous training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow, Russia. This year-long preparation set the stage for his future. On February 27, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Shukla as one of the select astronauts undergoing extensive training for India’s first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, set to launch in 2025.Axiom Mission 4The Ax-4 mission will mark the return to human spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary, with each country’s first government-sponsored flight in over 40 years. Although Ax-4 represents the second human spaceflight mission for these nations, it will be the first instance where all three will conduct a mission aboard the International Space Station.
