Only half had been paid. In a statement, the academy said Bellamy had been "engaged to conduct a small number of promotional activities" over the coming months. Bake with Brooki is shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards alongside Maehashi's book Tonight. (AAP: Jono Searle)The role had not yet begun. "While we make no legal assessment on the allegations aired in the media, we have informed Ms Bellamy that we will not move forward with the engagement at this time," it read. 'I do not copy other people's recipes'Bellamy released a second statement on Wednesday, saying the situation had become "extremely overwhelming", and "I do not copy other people's recipes". "While baking has leeway for creativity, much of it is a precise science and is necessarily formulaic," she wrote."Many recipes are bound to share common steps and measures: if they don't, they simply don't work."Brooke Bellamy boasts a combined 3 million followers on TikTok and Instagram.  (AAP: Jono Searle)On Thursday, Maehashi posted she had not made the statement "lightly" and didn't know "it would open the floodgates to haters". "I have nothing to gain out of speaking up except that I believe it's the right thing to do," she said. Bellamy has three bakeries in Brisbane, including one at Brisbane Airport. Nagi Maehashi says the caramel slice recipe in Bake with Brooki (right) is similar to her own (left). (Supplied: RecipeTin Eats)On Tuesday, Maehashi posted that the similarities between her caramel slice and baklava recipes, and the ones published in Bake with Brooki, were a "slap in the face to every author who puts in the hard work to create original content". In an earlier statement, Bellamy said she had been making and selling that caramel slice for four years before Maehashi posted the recipe in 2020. Books by both authors are shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards. Loading...Posted 1h ago1 hours agoThu 1 May 2025 at 1:19am, updated 42m ago42 minutes agoThu 1 May 2025 at 1:42amShare optionsCopy linkFacebookX (formerly Twitter)Top StoriesDutton hints at Coalition campaign failure as polls show Albanese majority in sightTopic:Government and PoliticsPhoto shows Peter Dutton election shadowsThe strange 'ballot-fellows' revealed on parties' how-to-vote cardsTopic:ElectionsPhoto shows green how to vote cards in the background with a text box that says enter your suburbSurprise could lurk for Labor if enough voters vent anger over cost of livingDAnalysis by David SpeersPhoto shows Anthony Albanese NPC for Speers ColumnJacinta Nampijinpa Price contradicts Peter Dutton, asserting Coalition will end school 'indoctrination'Topic:Public SchoolsPhoto shows Jacinta Price speaks while Dutton stands behind her listening.
