(Reuters: Jakub Porzycki)abc.net.au/news/jack-doohan-dropped-by-formula-1-team-alpine-for-five-races/105265942Link copiedShareShare articleAustralian Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan will be replaced for the next five race weekends, as his team Alpine elected to "rotate" their line-up.Doohan will be replaced by Argentine Franco Colapinto, who joined the team as a reserve driver in the off-season following a promising nine-race stint for Williams last season.Rumours about Doohan's place in the team have circled since the start of the season, and only intensified after crashing out on the first lap of last Monday's Miami Grand Prix."As part of an on-going assessment of its driver line-up, the team has made the decision to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship," Alpine statement in a statement."BWT Alpine Formula One Team therefore announces that Franco Colapinto will be paired with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, ahead of a new evaluation before the British Grand Prix in July."Jack Doohan remains an integral part of the team and will be the first-choice Reserve Driver for this period of time."Doohan's seven race weekends this year have been filled with incidents.Doohan crashed out early in Melbourne and had a huge shunt in Japan when he failed to switch off his DRS during practice. The Queenslander has shown glimpses of pace, including in Miami when he qualified faster than his more experienced teammate Pierre Gasly. In a statement, Doohan said, "this latest chapter is a tough one for me", but vowed to work with the team."I appreciate the team's trust and commitment," Doohan said."We have long-term goals as a team to achieve and I will continue to give my maximum efforts in any way I can to help achieve those. For now, I will keep my head down, keep working hard, watch with interest the next five races and keep chasing my own personal goals."LoadingABC Sport Daily podcastABC Sport Daily is your daily sports conversation.
