It is Western Australia's only unsolved fatal hit-and-run since 2016, but detectives made a breakthrough after using enhanced CCTV technology to identify a white Nissan Navara ute seen driving in the area where the father of eight was hit. Matthew Neary's body was found on Mandurah Road, just north of Dampier Drive. (ABC News)Police received multiple reports from members of the public after images of the car were published by several media outlets.It led to the arrest of the 22-year-old man, who was aged 17 at the time of the incident, on Milligan Street in Perth on Wednesday.He has been charged with failing to stop and ensure assistance following an incident occasioning death, as well as failing to report the incident.A roadside tribute for the father of eight. (ABC News)Mr Neary, 37, left behind a large family and had four children with his partner Teesha, who was pregnant with his ninth child. 'Loved by everybody'A fundraising page set up at the time of his death described him as an "incredibly kind and loving man"."He was not a wealthy man, he had a rich heart and personality and will leave behind a hole in the hearts and lives of so many," it said.During an earlier appeal for information, Detective Constable Ben Rooney said Mr Neary was "well respected by his family and loved by everybody"."He had a very large extended family, everybody liked to be with him, he was a very good joker," he said. Detective Constable Rooney said the family had frequently visited a roadside memorial for Mr Neary to lay flowers. The family set up a roadside vigil to honour Matthew Neary.
